Is friendship supposed to be so painful to lose? In fact, friendships do not get close to the amount of attention they ought to.
Friends aren't supposed to be exclusive in the way that lovers are - at least, that's what we're taught to accept. But deeply, at the dawn of friendship, we all crave the sense of being the one who is loved best.
What is seldom understood is that behind the most confident and powerful woman is a girl who wants a friend, and a girl who has learned to be terrified of a friend's abandonment and betrayal.
Sadly, friendships often end when they don't need to. When conflict arises between two girls, the usual course of action is to stop communicating - the two women mull and ponder over their relationship with the other, neither making an effort to reach out and find out what the other thinks. In the end, the friendship just fizzles out, which is a pity considering it could possibly have been salvaged with one phone call.
Many women avoid speaking their minds to other women for fear of a dirty or destructive fight. Sometimes a valued friendship ends because a girl feels unprepared for the conflicts that arise. She sees an argument as an ending, a sign that someone is not a friend, when in fact she is simply unprepared to negotiate a flashpoint.
Cherish the friendships you have right now, because the older you get, the harder it becomes to foster and maintain friends. Just because you cannot be best friends does not mean you cannot be friends at all.
